Holiday Fear 2006

This past Friday, the Empire Wrestling Federation held its end of the year show entitled “Holiday Fear”. This was a great way to close up the year and left open some questions to be answered in 2007. Holiday Fear may have been the end of the year show, but much like the ancient Chinese say, “Watch the sun when it sets, for when it returns it will not disappoint.”

Match 1: Inland Title Series Round 3

Joey Harder vs. Hook Bomberry

In the weeks leading up to this match, Hook Bomberry had been claiming that when it came time for Iron Express to face each other, that Joey Harder would “do the right thing” and Joey agreed that he would be doing the right thing. So when the bell rang for this match to start, Hook started to tell at Joey to lie down and let Hook pin him but Joey told Hook that he wasn’t go to do that and Hook could either lie down or they could wrestle. So they began to wrestle and Harder began to outshine his partner, After Bomberry shot Joey into the corner, Joey countered it with a float over and when he came down he managed to damage his leg and Bomberry was quick to use this injury to his advantage, focusing on the injured leg. The end of this match came when Bomberry went for his Michinoku Driver but Harder floated over and picked Hook's legs and put him into a Liontamer and forced Bomberry to tap out. Harder then asked Hook to shake his hand. Hook refused but Joey persisted and eventually Bomberry eased up to his tag partner.

Winner - Joey Harder

Match 2: "Sexy" Sonny Samson vs Mr. Instant Replay

Samson has been on a rampage as of late as he has been trying to make weight for the EWF Cruiserweight Championship. So as a preparation match, he was given a mystery cruiserweight opponent. His mystery opponent was a very athletic cruiserweight named Matt Jackson, or “Mr. Instant Replay”. This match was very well received by the crowd and was a definite crowd favorite. Both men tried to grapple at first but then Jackson showed his Lucha Libre style and outshined his opponent. After a trading of shots on the outside, Jackson ran into the ring and dove over the ropes onto Samson. This wasn’t enough as eventually Samson caught “MIR” with a Power Slam into the ring post and began to weaken the back of Jackson performing numerous backbreakers and back submission maneuvers. The end of this match came after Samson received an Asai DDT but kicked out and after a struggle, rolled up Matt with a School Boy Rollup and put his feet on the ropes for leverage.

Winner - "Sexy" Sonny Samson

Match 3: EWF American Championship

Dan "The Man" Kobrick (C) vs "Mr. 300%" Brandon Nitro

These two men have met before at the Knights of Columbus Hall, however the ending of that match was a bit controversial as Jason King had interfered on Dan Kobrick’s behalf. Kobrick was quick to attack the challenger and catch him off guard, although Nitro is known for his fire and energy, so it wasn’t long before Nitro was able to fight back against the champion. Kobrick continued to try to keep the fresh man down but he just kept getting right up and coming back at Kobrick, more intense each time. Kobrick finally had enough and decided to leave the match and just get counted out but Nitro wasn’t just going to let that happen. He went after Kobrick and continued to keep the American Champion in control, which is until Dan decided to resort to his normal ways and start trying to cheat to win. Kobrick began his beat down on Nitro and no matter what Brandon tried, Kobrick continued to control the high flyer. In the end of this match, Nitro had attempted his 450 Splash, but Kobrick moved and Brandon landed on his feet. Nitro then Punched Kobrick and shot him off the ropes when Dan countered it and got Nitro in a Rear Naked Choke (trying to apply his Kobrick Clutch) but Brandon back flipped Dan to his feet and then turned to face him and threw a punch to which Kobrick caught and then threw another. Dan ducked it and took Nitro down, forced him into a new submission he called The Kobrick Clutch 2, from which Brandon Nitro tapped out.

Winner - Dan "The Man" Kobrick

Match 4: EWF Cruiserweight Championship - Non Title Match

Ryan Taylor (C) vs "Handsome" Johnny Starr

Ryan Taylor has been rising in the ranks of the EWF as of late, and has been one of the most improved wrestlers of the year. One man who noticed this change was the leader of Starr Inc, Johnny Star. Starr set out to prove that he was not out matched by this youngster, and much to a surprise, he set out do this without the help of Starr Inc. The match started and Starr was weary to wrestle the cruiserweight and kept avoiding every attempt Taylor made to wrestle him. Eventually Starr locked up with Taylor and started to mimic the counters that Taylor applied to Starr but Taylor caught on to Starr’s game plan and trapped him into a cross-face submission. Starr tried to cheat to get ahead of Taylor but Taylor kept ahead of him until Starr dove onto him on the outside of the ring. Starr then wore down the cruiserweight but it just wasn’t enough. In the end, Star went for a Running High Knee, but Taylor sidestepped him and was able to catch him in an innovative maneuver that resulted in Starr being Trapped in the Dragon Sleeper. As the referee checked on Starr to see if he had passed out in the hold, “Marvelous” Max Martin literally threw in the towel to save Starr from Taylor’s submission.

Winner - Ryan Taylor

Match 5: Country Bear vs "Sadistic" Ron Kilbourn

Country Bear is one of the biggest and most popular EWF wrestlers, however on this night he faced a man who is considered to be a great rival. Aman who is just as big and, yet, hated by the whole Covina crowd, Ron Kilbourn. In the beginning of this match, Country Bear is doing his normal antics and doing his country style dancing but at this point is when Kilbourn stepped in and stopped the big man from having his fun. Kilbourn then beat down Country Bear. Bear soon overpowered the big man and came back strong but Kilbourn still managed to find ways to outsmart him and get ahead. However, in the end of this match, the mammothly huge Ron Kilbourn went to go to the top rope but Country stopped him and took him down to the mat. Then, he hit Kilbourn with a spear and ended the match..

Winner - Country Bear

Match 6: Los Chivos vs La Ola Del Mal

The feud between Los Chivos and La Ola Del Mal just gets more and more violent. The four men battled all over the ring in a quick, but brutally intense, match up. Los Chivos won the match but it was Black Metal who got the last laugh, as he managed to take the mask right off of Kayam's head. As he mocked him holding the mask, Black Metal made the challenge to Kayam for a one on one match, this January 5th.

Winner - Los Chivos

Match 7: Inland Title Series Round 3

TJ Perkins vs Jason King

Going into this match, Jason King had no way of winning the tournament but he could still stop TJ Perkins from winning and show that he is still the best in the EWF, despite the actions of Johnny Paradise. When this match started, both men began trying to out wrestle the other and began fighting for position. Both men seemed to match the other very well and had each other scouted at each turn. So much so, that they even found themselves in a stalemate at one point. Eventually both men got the upper hand at one point or another and used everything they could to try to score a pinfall. Eventually, after this match that could be considered as one of the most competitive matches of the year, TJ Perkins managed to pull out the victory and become 2-0-1 in the Inland Title Series. However, after the match, Johnny Paradise came out to beat up on the exhausted Jason King. He then gave him 3 vicious Piledrivers. TJ Perkins then ran back out to the ring and chased off Johnny Paradise. He then called for help from the back and, with the help of Cincinnati Red, Brandon Nitro and Ryan Taylor, they carried an unconscious Jason King out of the ring. It was later revealed that Jason had injured his neck and will be out of action for 6-8 months. Also, it has to be mentioned that the Inland Title Series has ended in a draw, with both Joey Harder and TJ Perkins having an identical record. Therefore, a rematch between the two has been signed with the winner being declared the winner of the Inland Title Series.

Winner - TJ Perkins

Match 8: EWF Heavyweight Championship Match

Bino Gambino (C) vs. "Combat Vet" Johnny Dynamite

Dynamite is a true hero and has served in the armed forces for our country. His bravery is a tactic that most men can not compare to and it became quite useful in this match. Early on, Dynamite went after Bino and started to beat him down. Bino would try to escape his opponent but Dynamite would just follow him and fight him, either in the ring or in the crowd. However, Dynamite’s luck changed when he was hit by a huge DDT from Gambino. Gambino then took over on him and worked over his larger opponent, picking at his body and punishing him. This match ended when Dynamite moved from Gambino’s Lionsault and went for a Roaring Elbow. Bino pulled the referee, Mando Vega, into his way. Dynamite then hit his patented C-4 on Gambino but the referee was still affected by the elbow from Dynamite. As Dynamite was checking on the referee, Bino hit his Binomite on Dynamite. The referee came to a few seconds later but made a count so slow that Dynamite was able to kick out. Mad MacIntosh then came to the ring and hit Dynamite with his Christmas sack, which was revealed to contain Bino's championship belt. Gambino then covered the knocked out Johnny Dynamite, and with a 1-2-3, Bino retained his title.

Winner - Bino Gambino
